Happy Leap Day!

Additional Time

Happy leap day! Tis that extra lucky day (or believed to be extra unlucky by some) that comes every four years to keep us in sync with the solar / seasonal year. It actually takes the Earth 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes and 46 seconds to complete its orbit (around 365.25 days), so an extra day is added to the calendar to keep us in tune with that additional time.

Spring Inspiration

And who doesn’t appreciate additional time? No matter what your superstitions about today may be, an extra day on the calendar gives us all a little bit more life to live! And with spring just around the corner, what better time to be inspired by the beauty of the Earth. The flowers will be blooming, the trees will be in color again, and nature will be in full swing as everything comes back to life.

Natural Ingredients

Did you know that all of HollyBeth Organics’ ingredients come from flowers and trees? From camellia, rose, geranium, sunflower, jasmine and lavender, to avocado, carrot and pumpkin, all of our certified organic products are made of the Earth’s finest natural resources. Rejuvenate with a Body Mist

HollyBeth Organics’ Lavender Mist and Body Mist provide a refreshing splash of fragrance and moisture from head to toe. Light enough to use all over, these mists leave behind a gentle aroma while rehydrating dull skin and hair. The perfect midday pick-me-up for lifeless locks in need of some sweet-smelling rejuvenation!

Protect with Hair & Body Silk

Are you addicted to your flat iron? Nourish split ends with HollyBeth Organics’ Hair & Body Silk. A few drops of this blend of sunflower, pumpkin seed, pomegranate seed, and palmarosa oil  provide much-needed nourishment to overworked hair. Want some extra protection before you blow dry? Run a dime-sized amount on the ends of your wet hair to protect it from the damaging effects of heat styling. Looking for a moisturizing treatment? Use it in the shower as a conditioning mask (and don’t forget to use it all over your body as a deep-penetrating skin moisturizer).

Tame with Shea Butter Cream

Winter winds blowing your hair out of place? Use a little dab of HollyBeth Organics’ Orange Peppermint Shea Butter Cream to tame frizzy, weather-worn hair. Hair will fly away no more thanks to the smoothing power of shea butter. In the mood for some summer flavor? HollyBeth Organics has a Lemon Lime Shea Butter Cream, too!

How to Wash Your Face – Tips to Improve Your Skin Care Routine

How to Wash Your Face

Washing my face has been an every-day part of my life since, well, forever. When I wake up and when I go to bed, my face gets a thorough cleansing. After reading Marie Claire’s article “This Is How You Should *Really* Be Washing Your Face”, I realized it was time to make a few changes to my routine.

Start with a Cleansing Oil

I have to admit, there are nights when even after I wash my face, I know I still have a little eye makeup or powder left over. Marie Claire explains that simply washing your face will not remove all of your makeup. Start by using a cleansing oil to remove makeup and excess lotion before you wash your face. I suggest HollyBeth Organics’ Cleansing Oil. This purifying blend of camellia and avocado oil combined with lavender and anti-oxidants lifts away excess dirt while soothing the skin.

You May Not Need to Wash Twice Daily

I’ve always been a wash twice daily kind of gal. Marie Claire suggests the number of times you wash your face should be based on your skin type. If you have dry skin, stick to once a day. Prone to oily skin? Morning and night may still be the way to go. Either way, pay attention to what your skin needs. Over-cleansing can strip your skin of moisture.

Oily Skin? Go for a Foaming Wash

I tend to have oily skin – which will help combat wrinkles in the future! But for now, it just makes me feel greasy. Marie Claire recommends using a foaming cleanser, for it leaves the skin feeling thoroughly cleansed without any left-over residue. HollyBeth Organics has an amazing Marigold Foaming Facial Cleanser that deep cleans and balances the skin while combating oil.

Change can be good – especially if it means balanced, radiant skin. Thanks for the great tips Marie Claire!

HollyBeth’s Three Favorite Skin Care Products for Traveling

Short-Sleeve Travel Weather is Around the Corner

When it’s a sunny, 60 degree day in February, you can’t help but long for short-sleeve shirt weather and spring road trips. Inspired by the surprise heat, HollyBeth and I couldn’t help but discuss our favorite places to travel to as we ate lunch today. Exotic beaches with white sand, classic cities home to great art and architecture, off-the-map locations promising fun and adventure, and familiar favorites full of good memories: we want to visit them all! Almost time to get those passports ready – and figure out what to pack.

Packing for a Trip

Ah, the process of packing for a trip. If you are anything like me, you want to pack your entire closet, because you may get the chance to break in those shoes you‘ve never worn, to wear that dress that has been begging for a night out, or use that cute rain jacket that just might come in handy – you see where I am going with this. Once the hypothetical outfit situations are covered, time to narrow down your toiletry bag.

With the skin care guru herself sitting next to me at lunch, I couldn’t resist asking her which HollyBeth Organics’ products make up her travel beauty routine.

HollyBeth’s Must-Have Travel Products

  1. Rose Geranium Toner – A few squirts of this flower-flavored beauty mist refreshes and rehydrates (and makes you smell good). An excellent pick-me-up when you have been traveling all day.
  2. Eye Cream – A HollyBeth Organics classic (the first product she created), this luxuriously silky cream           keeps delicate skin hydrated and moisturized. The perfect eye refresher after a tiring day of adventures.
  3. Chamomile Foaming Cleanser – This gentle yet sudsy cleanser removes the day’s dirt and oil, leaving behind soothed, balanced skin. Great for all skin types, so everyone in your travel party can use it.

So now I know what I’m bringing with me on my next vacation!

Local Artisans We Love: Atlanta’s Own Honeycomb Studio

honeycombHB

Meet Courtney Hamill

Atlanta is home to an amazing art scene.  Our city has been blessed with an impressive variety of artisans creating unique, hand-crated wares, including Courtney Hamill, creator and owner of Honeycomb Studio, a small-batch porcelain shop located in the Studioplex Lofts (the same creative complex as HollyBeth Organics!).

Honeycomb Studio

Just walk inside the doors of Honeycomb Studio, and you will not want to leave without at least one of Courtney’s porcelain pieces. She creates each one individually, producing one-of-a-kind works of art with each session at her pottery wheel.  The shelves of Honeycomb are filled with gorgeous ceramic bottles, vases, and bowls adorned with hand-painted details of color and gold, as well as striking porcelain antler sculptures and charming salt cellars and barware. Trust me – you will not be able to take the smile off your face as you walk around admiring the beauty of Courtney’s work.

Sustainable Candles

Wanting to create a sustainable candle that not only smells great but looks great, HollyBeth commissioned Honeycomb Studio to create the stunning vessels we use to house our limited edition Rose Geranium Soy Candles. We are excited for fellow candle lovers to enjoy the fragrant, flowery aroma crafted with HollyBeth’s favorite rose and geranium essential oils, as well as a re-usable vessel that will remain yours to keep as a distinctive piece of art.

Tips for Relaxing During the Work Week

Finding a Balance

It is almost the weekend – but not quite yet. There is still one more day of meetings, deadlines, errands, appointments, and obligations that demand your attention. By the time the weekend comes around, all of your energy has been zapped, and two days on the sofa with a movie marathon and some takeout sounds amazing, right? It’s an ongoing cycle of all work then all rest. Tired of being tired all weekend? Here are some ways to balance work with relaxation all week long.

Turn Off Your TV

We have all been behind that person in traffic with a “kill your TV” bumper sticker. Not the extent that I’m suggesting, but a few nights with the television turned off will give your brain some much-needed R&R. Give your mind a chance to recoup from sensory overload, and allow yourself to focus on something soothing, like a book or some music.

Get Physical

Sitting in an office chair all week can make anyone feel sluggish. Keep yourself energized by incorporating some kind of physical activity into your daily routine. I’m not preaching a 6:00am boot camp workout; I mean start your morning out with some good stretches or step away from your desk for an afternoon walk. Anything that gets you moving!

Have Fun

We all have things we are obligated to do; however, it is important to treat yourself with some time to do what you want to do. Catch up with some friends over dinner, check out that new movie, enjoy a good concert – whatever it is that puts a smile on your face (and rewards you for all that hard work you do).

Take Care of Yourself

Your physical health has an effect on your mental health. Take care of yourself! Just as your body benefits from pure, natural foods, go for clean, organic skincare products that will keep your skin balanced and hydrated. Check out HollyBethOrganics.com to discover skincare solutions that will keep you looking good and feeling good. One of my favorites is the Nourishing Body Oil. Just add a few drops to a hot bath for a spa-like moisturizing treatment!

Life is about balance. All work and no play . . . well, you know what I mean.

Choosing the Best Skin Care Line

Untitled-14

So Many Choices

With so many different body products out there, how do you choose the best skin care line for you? Watching television last night, I counted five different skin care advertisements in an hour time slot! And what about all of the ever-changing ingredient fads? From grapefruit and charcoal, celebrity-endorsed concoctions infused with rare melons to expensive chemical peels and injectables, even exclusive creams made with gold, the choices can be overwhelming (and sometimes absurd).  So where do you start when you have so many options?

Pros & Cons

Begin by taking a look at what you have used in the past. Make a pros and cons list, highlighting the product lines that have been the most beneficial as well as the most lack-luster. What stands out? Are there certain skin care lines that cleared up your acne but also dried out your skin? Or perhaps a brand that was ultra-hydrating but made you feel oily by the end of the day?

Know Your Skin Type

Knowing your skin type will play a huge role in which skin care line you should be using. If you find certain products zap your skin of moisture and cause flakes, you are prone to dry skin. Feel like certain products leave you with a shiny T-zone by the end of the day? You may have oily skin. Go back to that pros and cons list and see which skincare products have produced the most balancing results for you.

The Importance of Ingredients

Now let’s take a look at the ingredients in your skin care products. In my quest for clear skin, I relied heavily on chemical-based products that severely dried out my skin. Looking back at my pros and cons list, I discovered that I have sensitive, acne-prone skin that is irritated by lab-made product lines and heavy prescription creams. It was not until I started using simple, organic products with pure ingredients that my skin found proper balance. I find this to be the case with a lot of people who have sensitive skin. Chemicals are irritants, foreign to delicate skin. The best skin care lines are organic, made with prescriptions from Mother Nature, not Dr. Chemical.

What does your pros and cons list say about your skin? Maybe it is time to try something new. Check out HollyBethOragnics.com to discover USDA Certified Organic skin-balancing solutions. I promise you will find some more pros to add to your list!
